Quickly & easily create a consistent Brand Look + free download from Brightly & Co.

If you've been wanting to create a more cohesive visual brand...then keep reading. ;)

I’ll walk you through the steps and I’ve included a free template you can download to create your own Brand Style Guide (you'll find it at the bottom of this page).

Creating a more cohesive visual brand means being intentional about the fonts, colors, images and logos you use. Truthfully it’s not hard to do, it just takes a little planning.

Step 1:

I always recommend starting with a vision board (usually on Pinterest, although decoupage on poster board is always awesome). When you go to create this board, I want you to look for images that you’re really drawn to, and then dissect why you’re drawn to it.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • What is it about that image that screams “your brand!”?
  • What elements of the image call to your heart or hearts?
  • What would your audience like about this image, how does it reach them?

Once you’ve intentionally thought through the image, decide if it’s on brand or not. If it’s not move on, if it is Pin it! Or cut it out and paste it...or whatever method you choose. ;)

This is what it means to be intentional.

It means constantly asking yourself “why?” when adding visual elements to your brand. You should always know the answer to that question, and if you don't, then you need take some time to think it through.

Step 2:

Now that you have a vision board, scroll through your images and see what themes, colors, patterns, fonts and images stand out to you.

Themes you may notice:

  • Moody/Dark
  • Light/Bright
  • Colorful & Sassy
  • Bold & Eclectic
  • Spiritual & Airy
  • Classic & Monotone
  • Feminine & Natural
  • (plus so many more…)

Get creative here and write down your theme on your Brand Style Guide (Free template download below).

Step 3:

Choose 5-6 colors that stand out to you, this will be your color palette.

Step 4:

Now, choose 3-4 images that match your theme and color palette.

Step 5:

Choose 2 different fonts to use and add them to your Brand Style Guide. Look to your theme when choose fonts, for instance; if you’re fun & playful you may choose a fun bubbly or bolder font style. If you’re modern & moody you may choose a font that’s extra skinny or tall. If you’re Classic & Monotone you may choose a serif font that’s elegant and refined.

Step 6:

The last step to creating your own Brand Style Guide is to add your logo. If you don’t have a logo, choose a font you love and type out your business name in a way that’s pleasing to you.

Last Step:

Now that you have all the elements thought out, chosen and added to your Brand Style Guide. It’s time to update everything so it’s all consistent.

The key to creating a cohesive, intentional and consistent Brand is to think through the details and then use them regularly.

For instance, now that you have all the elements of your Brand Style Guide together on one page, you’re going to update your site to include those particular colors, fonts and types of images (**Note: Please be careful with adding images to your site and either purchase stock photography, take your own photos or hire a photographer.) Images are not free and the ones you just pinned from Pinterest belong to someone. I want to make sure you stay legal and we avoid any unpleasantness. ;)

Use the same fonts, colors, images and themes throughout your branding to create that intentional, cohesive and consistent look.

So, if in case you’re wondering what you need to update with your Brand visuals, here’s a quick list:

  • Website
  • Social Media Profiles (all)
  • Social Media Graphics
  • Newsletter - fonts, colors, images
  • Any and all marketing materials - printed or online
